A Bloggers Review...

June 18, 2014 20:00

We found this blog post by Happy Smiley People on the web and thought we'd share it with you. No, we didn't give them a free tent in exchange for a good post. At SoulPad we get many requests to review our products. Many Bloggers and Journalist want a free tent in exchange for a few words, posts, retweets, whatever. This example came in last month:

"If you're up for it I could start tweeting about needing to get a tent and asking people which is best, and then carry on to publicly make my decision and then photograph it all and give glowing review."

You see the problem here? They'd already made up their mind: a free tent for a good review. This isn't an isolated incident.

We don't give away items in exchange for biased reviews. Once our products are reviewed, they get returned to us to sell-off for charity or they are paid for in full.

The good folk at Happy Smiley People purchased their SoulPad at full price and didn't tell us they would be publishing the following blog post:

Original Source.

"After becoming fed up with a few niggly problems with our tent last year, we recently decided to invest in something new. However months of research just led to disappointment when after thinking I’d found the one, (suitable layout, good reviews, right price etc.) we realised it had been discontinued and was only available as a factory second – however with the original price tag.

We were back to square one; looking at huge nylon monstrosities, none of which had bedroom layouts to suit our growing family and costing hundreds of pounds at that. It was becoming hard to get excited about anything, that is, until my husband got involved and we discovered the beautiful canvas bell tent.

Camping

There are a number of canvas bell tents on the market but we eventually went for 5 metre SoulPad 5000 Lite and last weekend, in the safety of my Mum and Dad’s garden, we gave it a test run.

As shown in the photo the tent is really easy to put up. Considering this was our first time and we were dealing with some uneven ground, it all went pretty smoothly. You simply peg out the groundsheet and then the canvas loops, position the central pole and A frame for the doorway and then evenly peg out the guy lines. And that’s about it – you are ready to go! So much easier than our old tent which took two of us hours and constant repositioning, yet never really seemed quite right.

Not only do they look great, especially with the addition of some pretty accessories, but these tents provide one huge space for living/eating/playing, (perfect for camping with small children) last forever when looked after properly and are really warm and solid. We went for the cheapest option with a pegged in ground sheet and despite our uneven pitch, had no problems in a storm with not even a trickle of water finding its way in.

When you sleep in the tent it feels spacious and not at all claustrophobic. If anyone cries or needs you in the night you can be right there and without having to unzip your bedroom and trip over before getting to them! We slept on camp beds, arranging them in a square around the centre pole at night and then moving to the side to leave a large play/living area in the daytime.

Now we are looking forward to taking it on a proper camping trip at the end of July when, with the addition of some solar powered fairy lights, bunting and comfy rugs for the floor, (all next on my wishlist) I’m sure it will get us noticed!"
